The works of "CURRA" from Spain

Her friends (and I have the pleasure of counting myself among them) call her "CURRA" but her full name is MARIA FRANCISCA MARQUEZ MONTES. She was born in Madrid and lives in Seville. A Bachelor of Philosophy and Social Sciences at Madrid University, she also has a degree in French (Toulouse University) and English (Cambridge University). Her venture into the textile art world began with the opening of two fashion boutiques at Seville, for which she creates the designs herself. In 1973, she decided to use the scraps from her collections and started quilting. Her artistic career continues in the art galleries of Madrid, Seville, Barcelona, Foix (in France), etc… where she exhibits her "fabric paintings." She also designed the carpet for the reception room at the Andalusian Parliament as well as the theatre carpet for the Seville Opera, whose costumes she has designed since 1994. She teaches her art of making "pictures in fabric" at her workshop in Seville. I cannot end this brief biography without mentioning her extreme kindness and her unfailing receptiveness.
